US TARP to support commercial real estate Print E-mail

Commercial real estate lending has become another key process in US Federal Reserve stimulus plans. The Fed will now support more commercial real estate loans, to deal directly with some of the assets holding banks back. Commercial real estate loans are being seen as a nuisance to some banks, where the loans for the assets have been clogging balance sheets. Recently, there have been few buyers or sellers for these assets, which are generally regarded as safe investments. The Fed will now provide investors with large loans to buy the highly rated securities and, from June, the TARP facility will be extended to allow borrowings on apartment complexes, office buildings, retail shopping centres and other commercial property.
